Rescue and rehabilitation is expensive!
Injured and orphaned squirrel babies (called kits or kittens) come to the group in various ways – from tree fellers to farm workers, school children and Facebook users. Each baby from someone who decided to make a difference in a beautiful creature’s life.
While babies are absurdly cute, they are hard work and cost quite a bit to raise. Raising a squirrel from the age of 4 weeks to release costs approximately R1000 per squirrel.
This includes:
Royal Canin Puppy Milk (R300 per tin)- Fruit and vegetables
- Nuts
- Rat pellets
- Baby blankets
- Toys
- Cages
This does however not include veterinary care. Very few vets are willing to assist with wildlife, and when a squirrel requires medical attention, they end up at vets who specialise in exotic animals. And those vet bills quickly add up!
We rely on donations from volunteers and the public to pay these bills.
Donations are always welcome in various forms:
- Royal Canin Puppy Milk
- Baby blankets
- Pet carriers
- Small cages for young babies
- Large release cages
